Jeans, Deadstock Gun Shearing Trousers
Jeans, Deadstock Gun Shearing Trousers
Denim jeans - labelled gun shearing trousers - made in New Zealand for the New Zealand Workers' Union, likely 1930s.
These jeans are designed specifically to accommodate the needs of gun (professional) sheep shearers, though were evidently never worn as the denim is still in excellent condition and the tag hasn't been removed.
Features include:
- An extra layer of denim on front of the legs and lower back of the left leg
- An elasticated snap button to keep the left leg from riding up while shearing
- A single hip pocket and back pocket on the right side
- Suspender buttons as well as belt loops
The Shearers and Laborers' Union - which in 1893 was renamed to the New Zealand Workers' Union - was one of New Zealand's major labour unions until their collapse in the late 1980s.
Size: 42" waist
